Today Jordan Hill and I reveal the results of the secret art challenge! Last week we set up a private color challenge: we independently selected two colors each and then combined our choices. We were to make 5 pieces with these colors. By today. And we did!
The secret challenge colors:
- lime green
- soft yellow
- silvery lilac
These probably aren’t colors I would use exclusively together by my own natural inclination. Thank goodness we were also allowed to use black and white. I must say though that the combination kind of grew on me during the challenge.
I found this challenging, yes, but also enjoyable to do. Making a full set of five pieces using these colors made me stretch in a good way. I took the opportunity to make some bigger pieces and play with mixed media. I appreciated the time frame aspect, fitting these in with my other projects. In a way, the more restraints and restrictions, the easier it can be to come up with a creative idea.
I loved the playfulness of being “in cahoots” — seeing (and sharing) the occasional “unidentified” glimpse of the secret challenge pieces in progress on our blogs and on Twitter.
I also found it motivating to watch Jordan’s energy and workflow. She is so prolific and shares so freely! No way was I not gonna be ready on time!
Here’s what I made.
If you’d like to see them in more detail, let me know and I’ll put up some individual pictures.
I am looking forward to seeing what Jordan will post at her blog!
Have you ever tried a challenge — secret or otherwise? How did it go? Any surprises?
